The Back Forty

Grandma was hectoring him to get home, he was tired, he'd had enough, they could rest before dinner, watch some curling, and here they are walking back through the field that adjoins their house to Mom's. Gram is carrying his rechargeable drill and former container of pressed ham, painted white and full of bits and screws; he just has to concentrate on walking, his right arm hitched up as always. This from last weekend, when Ken cleaned the roofs and gutters with the good leaf blower and I hung up bird houses and learned how to walk a ladder.
