Isn’t the Ending So Much As the Start

It’s good to be me this weekend. Triple-booked myself tomorrow evening, am missing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Johnny Depp, when you get right down to it, and the company of an old friend) and a BC Lions Game (visit the site! see the dance team in orange bikinis!) to attend one small part of the Vancouver Folk Festival. I first heard of Leslie Feist on Canada Day (praise be to iTunes) and downloaded Let It Die after hearing 30 second snippets of three of her songs (sometimes you just know), gave copies to two of the women I want to impress most (ex, therapist) within days and found out this morning (while walking to work, reading the front covers of the papers as I went past their respective boxes/paper hawker persons (what the fuck is that about, anyway?)) that she is in town tomorrow, so guess where I am going to be? Jericho Beach, baby. (Swear it at.) Fourteen days after being introduced to Feist I am thoroughly enjoying the honeymoon stage – in full flush – and she’s here tomorrow and I am going, is what I’m saying.
Let’s just pause here for a few deep breaths, shall we?
Then Saturday day – the beach with Poke and the boys, who I have not seen in what feels like forever. I am not sure Thomas even recognized me on the phone today (HORROR!), though he did cause me to say quite clearly and enthusiastically at work, yon cubicle farm, “Yes, you are a big boy!” Did I explain very quickly when I got off the phone that I’d been talking to a two year old? Why, yes I did!
Then Saturday evening – Pamela! Is! In! Town! And also Toby, though if he is wearing saggy boxers, I do not want to know about it (that is the beauty of Canada). They have arrived from Turkey via Ontario and leave for Shanghai in three weeks. Pamela! I may be able to resist picking her up when I see her (because that might be kind of weird) but probably just barely.
Then Sunday – kayaking. Kayaking! Praise be to Deep Cove. I didn’t even go last year, and a woman I work with sent out an email today asking if any of us wanted to go and…do I? I can hardly wait.
I may need to take Monday off just to absorb it all.
