Missed it by that much
My paternal grandmother used to say that close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. (Other favourites: ‘It takes two to tango’, ‘Many hands make light work’ and ‘It’s a good life if you don’t weaken’.) I thought she was wrong about the horseshoes, but I just checked and close does actually count. You have to be within six inches. Sadly, the same does not go for NaBloPoMo. Or toilet bowls.
The good news is, the headache that caused me to wonder yesterday if I should call someone before I left work so I could call them again when I got home hopefully without passing out along the way abated enough with the help of triptans so that I could hang out with one of my much, much older brothers, who happened to be in town last night. The bad news is, it returned this morning with a vengeance. Moving hurt, so mostly I stayed still and cursed the universe. Tomorrow is going to be December 1st whether I’m ready for it or not, so I’m going to bed.
